Comedy Festival Program at Spiegel Haus

Inside Spiegel Haus: Circus, Cabaret and Comedy | Melbourne Comedy Festival

Every year, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival transforms the city into a playground of laughter, theatre and fearless creativity. Theatres buzz with anticipation, late-night crowds spill out onto the streets, and every corner of the city seems to hold a stage waiting for its next big moment.

But sometimes the magic of the festival isn’t just the comedians themselves — it’s the venues where those moments unfold.

One of the most captivating spaces this season is Spiegel Haus.

Walking through the entrance feels like stepping into another world. Soft lighting glows against mirrored walls, champagne glasses clink gently in the background, and the audience settles into an intimate space where performers and spectators share the same energy.

Inside the Spiegel tent, circus artists soar overhead, comedians command the stage, and cabaret performers blur the line between spectacle and mischief.

Running from 26 March to 19 April, Spiegel Haus brings together some of the most exciting shows of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival — from family-friendly daytime entertainment to champagne-fuelled late-night cabaret.

And the experience begins the moment you walk through the door.

Why Spiegel Haus Is the Perfect Melbourne Comedy Festival Night Out: The Magic of the Spiegel Tent

Two elegantly dressed performers at Blanc de Blanc Encore Melbourne Spiegel Haus Comedy Show

There’s a certain electricity inside a Spiegel tent that you don’t find in traditional theatres.

The format dates back to early twentieth-century Belgium, where travelling mirrored tents hosted cabaret, circus and music performances across Europe. Designed to bring audiences closer to performers, these spaces created an atmosphere where every laugh, gasp and moment of suspense could ripple through the room.

That same intimacy defines Spiegel Haus.

The stage sits close. The audience leans forward. Performers often step right into the crowd.

It’s theatrical, social and wonderfully unpredictable — the perfect setting for the wild creativity of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

If you’re looking for things to do during the Melbourne Comedy
Festival, Spiegel Haus offers one of the city’s most vibrant nights out, combining comedy, circus, cabaret, food and drinks in one lively venue.

Family-Friendly Comedy Festival Shows at Spiegel Haus

During the day, Spiegel Haus transforms into a joyful playground for families.

Children arrive buzzing with excitement while performers turn science, magic and circus into unforgettable moments of discovery.

Dr Hubble’s Brilliant Bubbles

Dr Hubble’s Brilliant Bubbles family show poster at Melbourne Spiegel Haus featuring giant colourful soap bubbles and interactive comedy science performance.

Dates: 12–19 April (Festival dates: 26 March – 19 April)

Few things feel as mesmerising as watching a bubble float gently through the air — and Dr Hubble turns that simple magic into a full theatrical experience.

The show explores the science behind bubbles through dazzling demonstrations that grow bigger, stranger and more beautiful with every moment. Giant shimmering spheres stretch across the stage, bubbles float within bubbles, and volunteers occasionally find themselves standing inside enormous floating creations. By the end of the show, the room feels filled with the same simple wonder that bubbles have carried for generations — fragile, fleeting, and strangely magical.

Circus: The Show

The Greatest Magic Show poster at Spiegel Haus Melbourne Comedy Festival featuring magician performing family-friendly stage illusions.

Dates: 29 March – 13 April (Festival dates: 26 March – 19 April)

Circus has always been about the impossible made real.

In Circus: The Show, performers leap, balance and twist through routines that push the limits of strength and precision. Every movement feels like a moment suspended in time — bodies defying gravity while the audience holds its breath. Yet the performance never feels serious or distant. Playful humour runs through the show, reminding us that circus is also about joy. Every leap and balance feels suspended between risk and grace, leaving the audience holding its breath before breaking into applause. When the final bow arrives, the tent feels charged with admiration for the sheer artistry unfolding on stage.

Kaboom!

Dates: 29 March – 19 April (Festival dates: 26 March – 19 April)

If one show is guaranteed to wake up the entire Spiegel tent, it’s Kaboom!

Created by the wonderfully chaotic Magnus Danger Magnus, the performance transforms science into theatrical mischief.

Chemical reactions fizz dramatically, smoke swirls across the stage and unexpected explosions punctuate the performance. Volunteers occasionally find themselves pulled into the experiments, creating moments that feel spontaneous and unpredictable.

The room fills with laughter and delighted chaos, you might hear “science has rarely been this entertaining.”

When Night Falls, Spiegel Haus Lineup Comes Alive

As evening arrives, the mood inside Spiegel Haus shifts.

The lights grow warmer, the drinks start flowing, and the stage prepares for performances that lean into the glamorous world of circus and cabaret.

This is when the Spiegel tent truly shines.

Elixir Revived

Dates: 26 March – 6 April (Festival dates: 26 March – 19 April)

Part circus spectacle, part theatrical comedy, Elixir Revived follows four eccentric scientists chasing the secret of eternal life.

Their experiment, of course, does not go according to plan.

Acrobatic routines unfold with breathtaking precision while humour threads through every moment. Performers twist, balance and launch themselves into daring feats that leave the audience gasping one moment and laughing the next.

It’s chaotic, playful and utterly captivating.

Blanc de Blanc Encore

Melbourne Spiegel Haus Comedy Festival poster featuring Blanc de Blanc Encore

Dates: 26 March – 19 April (Festival dates: 26 March – 19 April)

If Spiegel Haus has a crown jewel this season, it may well be Blanc de Blanc Encore.

Produced by Strut & Fret, the show blends circus, cabaret and comedy into a sparkling celebration of champagne-fuelled spectacle.

As we wrote in our review, walking into Blanc de Blanc Encore feels like stepping into a secret cabaret world where everything glimmers in white and gold, champagne glasses sparkle in the low lighting, and the entire room hums with anticipation.

Aerial artists glide through the air. Confetti drifts through the crowd. Pillow fights erupt in playful chaos. The audience doesn’t simply watch the show — they become part of it.

Food and Drinks at Spiegel Haus: Tacos, Cocktails and Festival Energy

A night at Spiegel Haus isn’t just about the show. The venue has built a reputation during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival as a place where people arrive early, stay late and turn an evening of comedy into a full festival experience.

Outside the Spiegel tent, the courtyard becomes a lively gathering space filled with music, conversation and the glow of festival lights. Between performances, audiences spill out to grab a drink, share snacks and decide which show they’re seeing next.

One of the standout food offerings this season comes from CDMX, bringing bold Mexico City–inspired street food to the Spiegel Haus courtyard. Their menu focuses on vibrant tacos and festival-friendly dishes that are easy to enjoy before a show or while catching up with friends between performances. Expect rich slow-cooked meats, fresh salsas and bright citrus flavours that cut perfectly through the evening air.

The food pairs naturally with the venue’s drinks selection, where visitors can order beer, wine and cocktails before heading inside for the next performance. Whether you’re settling in for a full night of comedy or simply dropping by for one show, the courtyard atmosphere makes Spiegel Haus feel as much like a festival hub as it does a theatre.

For many visitors, that relaxed energy is part of the tradition — grabbing tacos, raising a drink, and letting the night unfold one show at a time.

Supporting Live Comedy

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival thrives because audiences show up.

Every laugh in the room supports the performers who spend months crafting their shows. Every ticket helps keep Melbourne’s vibrant live performance scene alive.

Venues like Spiegel Haus create the perfect space for that connection between performer and audience.

And sometimes the best way to support comedy is simply to step inside the tent, order a drink and let the night unfold.
