8 Instagrammable Restaurants in Melbourne

Tippy Tay -  Melbourne’s festive Italian social spot

Melbourne eateries don’t do pretty just for the sake of being pretty. Some of Melbourne’s most iconic restaurants stand out because they pair design with real artistry, made with love and care from Melbourne’s concentration of talented chefs. The artistry not only lies in the craft of flavours, but flourishes with intentional storytelling through a space built for shared moments. Whether you’re planning your birthday dinner, a long overdue catch-up with your best mates, or just want to dress up and take some pictures with your girls, these venues deliver both #chicvibes and instagram aesthetics.

Where to find Melbourne’s most aesthetic restaurants that serve both mood and menu

Nothing screams Melbourne quite like a night out in a restaurant that’s serving all the vibes. From neon-lit interiors that make your photos pop to beautifully plated dishes practically begging for your camera roll, this city is stacked with some of Australia’s most aesthetic dining spots. Whether you’re chasing modern Asian fusion or high-energy CBD dinner destinations, these Melbourne restaurants don’t just feed you, they feed your feed.

1. Yakimono : Where neon Tokyo meets Melbourne’s modern edge

Yakimono isn’t just vibrant, it’s a whole mood. Tucked away on Collins Street, you’ll find the iconic neon iridescent facade that practically glows from every angle. Think bold blue, purple, pink panels, neon signs and cyberpunk lighting that leaves you guessing whether the venue is a night club or the coolest restaurant. Beyond their two dining levels, the menu is built around flamed kissed Japanese flavours crafted by a team who genuinely love the art of cooking over an open kitchen and nails substance to the experience. If good conversation is on the menu, kick things off with the wagyu beef intercostal skewers glazed with smoky soy, then share the boldly spiced duck fried rice and yakitori chicken noodles with smoked brisket… simply chef’s kiss. However, if daytime is more your style or you’re too overwhelmed with the selection, their Sip and Setto bottomless brunch hits all the right spots. With a perfectly curated seasonal cocktail lineup and Yakimono favourites, you really can’t go wrong, my personal favourite when I went was the chicken katsu! Yakimono welcomes both reservations and walk-ins, offering a premium dining experience with dishes typically ranging from $25 to $60+. For larger groups of up to 15, booking is recommended to secure the best spot for group photos, because truly, there isn’t a bad angle anywhere in this restaurant!

Yugen's iconic bar and chandelier: photographed by author

2. Yugen : Melbourne’s most luxe dining escape

If you’ve ever scrolled religiously on Instagram, chances are you’ve come across photos of Yugen’s stunning chandelier and insane bar setup. Located beneath the Capitol Grand, Yugen feels like stepping underground into a sculptural gallery with floating platforms, warm and moody backlight, and perfectly plated modern Asian dishes. The venue is known for its craftsmanship, from hand-finished stone pillars displaying their range of wines and spirits, to custom lighting that makes every table feel cinematic. This venue is the ultimate “it-girl” destination for birthdays, mine included! While Yugen offers a fine dining experience with prices ranging from $6 to $280, their kingfish sashimi is a must-try, served with onion ponzu, kimchi sesame, and charred spring onion. For mains, you can’t go past the Yugen Special fried rice, a delicious combination of XO sauce, barbecue pork, and prawn, all in one indulgent dish. Yugen welcomes reservations and walk-ins, though booking ahead is recommended to secure the best spot for your group and make the most of your experience. You absolutely can’t miss the chance to snap a photo in front of their iconic chandelier from the second floor, just remember, no flash is allowed so the ambience stays perfectly mysterious.

Afloat by night: photographed by author

3. Afloat : Melbourne’s Floating Summer Playground

With a new theme every year, Afloat has become a summer ritual. This season they bring Rio De Janeiro to the heart of Melbourne with tropical, brazilian-style carnival, beach club vibes paired with bold colours, fire pits, pools and open-air views. Adding to the tropical paradise on the Yarra, we can’t get enough of Afloat’s pool overlooking the city! Water on water aesthetics that are just begging for an Instagram post! Despite its photogenic appeal, it remains grounded in good food, local producers, and a social atmosphere that feels distinctly Melbourne. As soon as the sun’s out, you’ll find me chilling on Afloat with friends or colleagues, most definitely with a limoncello spritz in hand. With a seasonal menu crafted around the yearly theme, Afloat spoils guests with a variety of options, though their pizzas have my heart. This floating hub is perfect for socialising and fun, offering 360-degree views of Southbank from the Yarra. No matter where you’re seated, the stylish furniture, lush plants, vibrant colours, and natural lighting make the space effortlessly photogenic. With dishes ranging from $8 to $160, the menu caters to every taste and occasion. While walk-ins are welcome, larger groups are best to book ahead. Once the sun’s out, Afloat buzzes with summer vibes. It’s the ultimate destination for a hot girl summer with your besties!

Tippy Tay -  Melbourne’s festive Italian social spot

4. Tippy Tay : Melbourne’s festive Italian social spot

The playful and colourful exterior promises all the fun you need for a special occasion. But once you step foot inside, think bold pops of colour, festive decor hanging all over the ceiling and eye-catching textural details that transport you to Italy. From stylish, comfortable furniture to lush greenery, neon accents, and statement lighting, every corner feels designed for socialising… and snapping. Whether you’re seated at a booth or a table for your group, the décor, lighting, and carefully curated props create endless Instagram-worthy moments that perfectly complements its colourful italian cocktails and shareable dishes. While Tippy Tay is firmly on my summer to-do list, I’m absolutely eyeing the Duck Ragu Bianco paired with some playful cocktails: a passionfruit therapy never hurt anyone! The menu ranges from $7 to $50, offering something for everyone, and let’s be honest, no one’s ever a picky eater when it comes to Italian. Tippy Tay welcomes both walk-ins and reservations, though booking ahead is a smart move for larger groups or weekend visits. If you missed out on euro summer, this is the place to be, and you can bet I’ll be there soaking up their summer vibes when the sun finally comes out.

5. Suzie Q : The sweet spot for red, retro vibes

If you’re looking for a “feed me” menu that truly feeds you well, Suzie Q is the place to be. For $50, you can select 2 small plates, 2 large plates, and 1 side from their modern Chinese menu with typical dishes ranging from $20 to $50. Starting your night, you absolutely must try Hiramasa Kingfish perfected with daikon, pickled goji, chilli, soy and coriander seed. For mains, I’ll definitely be coming back for the full-sized sweet and sour barramundi and the spicy seafood noodles loaded with prawns, scallops, calamari, and capsicum. Pair it with one of their beautifully crafted cocktails, and you’ve got the perfect Instagram story, drink in hand, mood set. The red retro-textured interior and rustic decor give the bar a warm, jazzy ambience, creating a curious escape right in the heart of Melbourne’s iconic Chapel Street. Walk-ins are welcome, but bookings are recommended for larger groups and weekends as Chapel Street is always buzzing. Dress up, snap some moody photos, and enjoy a night as bold as the food.

HER Bar : Literally Melbourne’s it-girl

6. HER Bar : Literally Melbourne’s it-girl

HER Melbourne spans across 4 levels, but first lets talk HER Bar. On the ground floor is the main HER Bar, offering a European inspired all day menu and modern cocktails that effortlessly shift from brunch to late‑night drinks. While their set menus range from $40 to $80 per person, their $20 lunchtime pasta deal is an absolute must. I’m still trying to snag a walk in for their Tuesday night steak and frites, which goes for just $25! HER Bar does welcome walk-ins, but its prime location next to Melbourne Central often means long wait times. For a smoother experience, booking ahead is highly recommended. HER Bar’s ground floor exudes modern european charm, anchored with a striking zinc‑topped bar and warm honey-toned walls. Terrazzo floors and marble tables create a chic yet cosy bistro atmosphere, while panels and brass accents add texture and a mid-century flair. Once dinner is done, make your way up to the HER Rooftop for city skyline snaps and good vibes. Don’t dismiss taking the stairs though, the ombre sunset‑aura lighting makes it the perfect spot for a solo shot that’s totally feed worthy. Be sure to explore the other levels too, including the Music Room and BKK, each offering its own unique atmosphere.

Beverly Rooftop : A piece of Los Angeles in Melbourne

7. Beverly Rooftop : A piece of Los Angeles in Melbourne

Beverly Rooftop, perched 24 floors above Chapel Street in South Yarra, delivers a dreamy rooftop experience, think blush pink curved chairs, green and white striped lounges, a retractable glass roof and panoramic views of Melbourne’s skyline and more. The menu leans towards modern Australian with a Southern Californian flair, offering dishes like lamb ragu in a handkerchief pasta or a spicy peanut butter California sushi roll and seasonal share plates. Do expect a finer dining experience with dishes in the mid‑to‑upper range ($7 to $845). Beverly Rooftop welcomes walk-ins, though availability can be limited, so bookings are recommended to avoid disappointment. For group bookings of 8 or more, a set menu is required. Thoughtfully curated for groups, these menus make every dining experience seamless, enjoyable, and perfectly suited for special celebrations or girls’ nights out. While I haven’t yet visited Beverly, it’s been a fan favourite for photos, especially if you snag a window table at sunset. Paired with their beautifully presented dishes and vibrant cocktails, it’s easy to see why this rooftop spot is a go-to. The camera definitely eats first!

Reine & La Rue : A Heritage Gem on Collins

8. Reine & La Rue : A Heritage Gem on Collins

Once the former stock exchange building, this heritage listed building has been transformed into Melbourne’s most refined dining spaces. Inside their cathedral room you’ll find soaring gothic‑style vaulted ceilings, stained‑glass windows, solid stone columns, intricate mosaic flooring and a glamourous cocktail bar. All of which blend to deliver timeless elegance and a mark of history in the heart of the CBD. On the menu, the mid to upper ($7-$420) priced dining spot offers French‑inspired fare with a modern twist, from freshly shucked oysters and raw seafood bar selections, to wood fired meats, hearth cooked whole fish, and indulgent share plates. Plus a curated wine list and classic cocktails that elevate the experience. While bread is usually done well everywhere, I couldn’t get over Reine & La Rue’s sourdough with burnt honey butter. The Bluefin tuna was a standout, paired beautifully with spring radish, piment d’Espelette, and orange. For mains, the wood-roasted chicken was cooked to perfection, accompanied by Morteau sausage, Puy lentils, leek, and wild garlic. And if it’s a special occasion, let them know, they might just surprise you with a charming sweet treat to end your meal. Whether it’s a shot of its grand characteristics, a close-up of a beautifully plated dish, or a candid moment, this iconic Melbourne spot is a dream for capturing timeless, elegant shots that will wow your followers.

The recipe to capture Instagram worthy restaurant shots

You know a night out isn’t complete without a few flawless photos for the gram. Lucky for you, we’ve got the ultimate guide to nailing every restaurant shot like a pro:

  1. Bar Goals: Snap a moody, low exposure shot of the bar. Trust us, it’s pure feed material and one of the most aesthetic set ups in a restaurant interior.

  2. Foodie Angles: Low angle shots of your dishes and drinks are a vibe, or go full bird’s-eye to capture the table spread in all its glory.

  3. Cocktail Cheers: Nothing says celebration like a perfectly timed “cheers” with your favourite people.

  4. Sip & Slay: Grab a solo or group shot at your table with a cocktail in hand. Easy, effortless, candid, and totally worthy for the gram.

  5. Picture Perfect Backdrops: Hunt for empty spots that scream aesthetic. Some examples can be balconies, staircases, outdoor corners, or even the surprisingly photogenic bathrooms.

At the end of the day, everyone wants that perfect shot from a night out, but the key is balance. Snap away, enjoy the moment, and stay mindful of the restaurant’s atmosphere and fellow diners. After all, a memorable night is about more than just photos. Keep it classy, capture the magic, and let your experience speak for itself.
