Dine Among Drama: Gluttony The Play Serves a Feast of Flavours and Feelings at The Windsor

Gluttony: The Play Returns to The Windsor for an Unforgettable Second Season

Gluttony The Play has returned to Melbourne for a second season, and it’s already making waves. Set in the historic grandeur of The Windsor Hotel, this immersive theatre experience blends the finest elements of gourmet dining with gripping, intimate drama. After a sold-out debut during the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival 2024, Gluttony is back for a limited time, giving diners and theatre lovers another chance to witness this one-of-a-kind event.

What makes Gluttony The Play so special? Imagine sitting down for an exquisite three-course meal, paired with local wines, only to realise that you’re not just eating dinner—you’re part of the scene. The performance unfolds all around you, as you sit mere inches from the actors, eavesdropping on their secrets and emotions. This is immersive dining and theatre taken to another level, making for an experience you’ll remember long after the final course.

The Drama of Friendship and Longing, Served with a Side of Gourmet Cuisine

The story at the heart of Gluttony is one of friendship, love, betrayal, and longing. Set in the fictional restaurant Gourmandise, a group of old friends reunites for a dinner party after many years apart. What begins as a seemingly joyful reunion quickly spirals into a complex web of lost opportunities, broken promises, and questions of trust. Are they truly friends, or just playing their parts for the sake of appearances?

As the drama unfolds, diners are treated to an exceptional menu crafted by award-winning chef Rob Kabboord. The dishes aren’t just something to eat—they are woven into the story itself, creating a seamless blend of flavours and emotions. Each course, paired with carefully selected wines, mirrors the unfolding tension of the plot, drawing the audience deeper into the experience.

A Theatrical Dining Experience Like No Other

One of the highlights of Gluttony The Play is the intimate nature of the performance. Audience members sit around and near the main dining table where the action takes place, creating the feeling of being inside the story rather than watching from afar. As Natasha Stellard, one of the immersive diners, put it:

“It was such a unique experience having the theatre occur all around us. Sitting amongst the actors at the large dining table made me feel like I was eavesdropping on the group’s dinner party. The wine-paired 3 course meal was woven into the show while we ate with the dinner party. The script was hilarious, yet emotional, and the cast kept us captivated and laughing throughout.”

It’s this unique positioning that elevates Gluttony beyond a traditional play or dining experience. You’re not just an observer; you become part of the evening, soaking up every line of dialogue and every burst of laughter as if you were a guest at this emotionally charged dinner party.

The Perfect Pairing of Atmosphere and Performance at The Windsor

Set against the luxurious backdrop of The Windsor Hotel, Gluttony takes full advantage of its location. The historic dining room, with its grandeur and elegance, is the perfect stage for this tale of indulgence and intrigue. There’s a rich contrast between the opulence of the setting and the raw, often humorous emotions of the characters. The hotel’s high-end hospitality pairs perfectly with the play’s themes of gluttony, friendship, and excess, making for a memorable night out in Melbourne.

The play’s brilliance doesn’t just come from its script, though. The cast delivers pitch-perfect performances, each actor bringing depth and personality to their role. They move seamlessly between moments of humour and tension, ensuring that the audience remains engaged from start to finish. Whether it’s a quiet, reflective conversation or a heated argument, every emotion feels real, and you can’t help but be drawn into their world.

“As a dinner guest I feel I need to listen to each one’s case without passing judgement. But I do! As the story evolves my feelings change. Oh! Meanwhile, I am being served extraordinary food. I want to discuss the food with Laurence but we need to keep up with the razor sharp discussion between the characters, which has some cracking local references. As for the rest of the dinner, we are both inside and outside the lives of this deeply personal interaction with characters with whom at some stage of my life I can relate. It becomes visceral. Oh, God, I have had this feeling. I’ve been there. In the meantime the story keeps evolving and we learn about how to make food with love and meaning at the same time!!” Emma Lee & husband Laurence Harewood

Why You Shouldn’t Miss Gluttony The Play

If you’re looking for a theatre experience that’s truly unique, Gluttony The Play is a must-see. It’s a perfect blend of food, wine, and drama, creating an atmosphere that’s immersive and emotionally charged. Whether you choose the full dining experience with a three-course meal or opt for the lighter In the Round option with snacks, you’re guaranteed an unforgettable evening.

Gluttony isn’t just about watching a performance—it’s about being part of one. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve not only witnessed great theatre but shared a moment with the characters themselves. It’s an experience that goes beyond the stage and into your senses, one that lingers with you long after you leave the table.

This second season at The Windsor is sure to sell out quickly, so don’t wait to book your tickets.
