City Lights
The free infrastructure of the entire festival runs 3 to 19 July across Adelaide’s laneways, squares and cultural precincts. Illuminate Adelaide 2026: Night Visions at Adelaide Botanic Garden

Returned by overwhelming public demand, Night Visions is the experience that has come to define Illuminate Adelaide for most of the people who have attended it. After dark, Adelaide Botanic Garden is transformed by lasers, large-scale projections, light installations and soundscape across the garden.
The route is a curated one-way trail taking approximately 60 minutes, with sessions departing every 15 minutes from 6pm Tuesday through Sunday. The experience runs regardless of weather and appropriate clothing and footwear for winter conditions is advised.
General admission is $43 on weeknights and $48 on Fridays and Saturdays, with a Supersaver night on Tuesday 14 July at $30 and a relaxed session on Tuesday 7 July at $40 for neurodiverse audiences and those with sensory needs. RAA members receive 20% off general admission while allocations last.
Dining is available at Botanic Lodge, positioned lakefront within the Night Visions experience, at $145 per person. The set menu with gluten free and vegetarian options available on request is served at communal tables across multiple sittings, with the full evening including the trail running approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.
Ticketed Light and Immersive Art Experiences
Digital Abyss

French digital artist Miguel Chevalier has spent more than 45 years at the leading edge of immersive digital art, and Digital Abyss, his 2026 Illuminate commission installed inside ILA in the city’s west-end creative precinct, reflects that depth of practice. The work takes the deep ocean as its conceptual foundation, a subject Chevalier approaches through the specific detail that 95% of the ocean floor remains unexplored, and builds from it a virtual underwater environment of AI plankton projections, robotic drawings, glowing light sculptures and curved interactive screens that respond to visitor movement. Shadows shift as you pass. Forms emerge and dissolve according to data algorithms drawn from the living world. The score by French composer Jacopo Baboni Schilingi gives the whole environment its pulse.
Allow 30 to 45 minutes. The experience is suitable for all ages. Supersaver sessions are available on Tuesday 7 July at $15. The ILA bar and Aurora Restaurant, an official Illuminate Host, are available before or after the experience. Chevalier holds the role of 2026 Luminary Artist in Residence across the broader festival, with his work extending beyond this single installation.

Universal Kingdom: Ice Age at Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide Zoo after dark is the setting for Universal Kingdom: Ice Age, a large-scale puppetry and light experience presenting Woolly Mammoths, Sabre-Toothed Tigers, Thunderbirds and Dinosaurs through the combined work of acclaimed creative studios Erth Visual and Physical Inc, illuminart and After Dark Theatre. An interactive kids zone runs alongside the main experience.
Sessions are available Thursday to Sunday at 5:30pm, 6:30pm and 7:30pm throughout the festival. Allow approximately one hour. Relaxed sessions with reduced capacity and lowered volume run at 5:30pm on Sunday 12 and Sunday 19 July. Food and drink are available on zoo grounds during sessions.
