CherryHill Blossom Festival, Spring Picnic in the Yarra Valley

CherryHill Blossom Festival

Picture this: The air is crisp, the trees are dressed in soft pink and white, and there’s a delicate, sweet, floral fragrance drifting through the orchard. You slow down, spread out a picnic blanket and soak up the sunshine.

This dreamy spring escape is closer than you might think. After months of early sunsets and nipping cold through Melbourne’s winter, spring arrives at CherryHill Orchards in a burst of delicate blossoms, with live music, local food and more. Whether you’re planning a romantic afternoon, a family outing or simply a countryside escape, this much-loved spring tradition is the perfect excuse to leave the city behind and enjoy the season in full bloom.

Bring a Blanket to Blossom

CherryHill Orchards
Springtime at CherryHill Orchards

Embrace a slower kind of spring day at CherryHil, with the theme this year being “Bring a Blanket to Blossom”.

Pack a picnic, find a spot under the trees, and spend a little time soaking it all in. For lovers of a nostalgic picnic setup, retro picnic pack add-ons are also available at checkout. The pack contains your basic picnic necessities, but also comes with a nostalgia-filled Aussie snack-pack, all aimed at recreating the warmth and whimsy that defined our childhood memories.

Jenna Rank, CherryHill’s Head of Digital Marketing, puts it best: “Grab a blanket, grab some food, get the vibes, and just have a really fun, chill afternoon”.

Live Music, Local Food and a Little Something to Sip

Of course, a day in the Yarra Valley wouldn’t be complete without good food and wine. The CherryHill Blossom Festival features live music, local food and drink stalls, and plenty of artisan beverages to enjoy throughout the day.

Treat yourself to CherryHill’s much-loved favourites like cherry ice cream and barista-made coffee. If you’re going for something tangy and refreshing, try the cherry sorbet. If you like something milky and sweet, our pick is the Amarena.

For those keen to get a drink, CherryHill’s locally produced range, includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic options such as Cherry Spritz, Seltzer, Cider, and Cherry Vodka, Cherry Juice, Cherry Liqueur and Blossom Gin. Mo’s favourite pick would be the Cherry Juice, which is extravagant; “drinking it felt like a deep body and soul-cleanse,”he reminisces.

Phoebe Morley, CherryHill’s Head of Brand and Marketing, describes CherryHill’s collaborative relationship with the local community, “I don’t see CherryHill in competition with our neighbours but rather the community is all one cohesive force”.

What’s New at CherryHill This Season?

One of the exciting additions this year is a brand-new on-site café, making it even easier to settle in for a leisurely afternoon. Expect a tempting mix of sweet and savoury bites, alongside the orchard’s beloved classics. So, if you’d rather grab something delicious on the day than pack your own picnic, you’re covered.

The Blossoms Are Just the Beginning

CherryHill Blossom
CherryHill Orchard Blossoms

One of the magical things about visiting CherryHill in spring is knowing that the orchard is only just getting started. Once the blossoms fall, the cherries begin to grow and ripen, ready for visitors to pick straight from the trees when cherry-picking season returns in November.

If you fall in love with CherryHill during blossom season, and you will, you’d want to make a mental note to come back later in the year.

Tips To Plan Your Spring Visit

  • BRING A LARGE PICNIC MAT: For the ultimate comfort, bring a large picnic mat (available to purchase at the café) to lounge on over the thick grass, along with a few cushions or a foldable chair so you can really settle in and soak up the scenery.
  • COME IN EARLY: The earlier, the better, as the best spots are usually snapped up quickly.
  • PUT AWAY YOUR DEVICES: If the serenity of the surroundings doesn’t coax you to like it did to us, bring along a book or a board game (Monopoly – Yarra Valley edition is available to purchase at the café) to keep you from reaching for your screen.

Whether you’re there to wander among the blossoms, enjoy a leisurely picnic or indulge in CherryHill’s delicious food and drinks, the festival is a lovely way to slow down, soak up the spring sunshine and enjoy a beautiful day in the countryside.

Absolutely! Families with little ones can enjoy the Kids Hub, featuring face painting, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, story time and lawn games. Kids also receive a free weekday pass from Monday to Thursday. Infants aged 0 – 3 years old require a ticket, but they are free of charge. And yes, dogs are welcome too, so the whole family can enjoy a day among the blossoms.

Honestly, after our visit, take as much time as you want. Wander the flowering orchard, take photos, enjoy a picnic and grab a coffee or cherry ice cream; this place is made for you to reconnect to nature, meaning you are supposed to stay as long as you feel like staying. This is the kind of place that is kid-friendly too, meaning your kids will not get bored either. Just make sure to come in early however, as the views are something to die for!

As the festival takes place outdoors, it’s best to come prepared for Melbourne’s unpredictable spring weather. Pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a water bottle, an umbrella, and a waterproof coat, just in case. Don’t forget your tickets! You can present your PDF ticket attachment or QR code saved on your smartphone, or bring a printed copy for entry.

We recommend wearing closed-toe, flat, and comfortable walking shoes, as you’ll be exploring a working orchard with slightly uneven ground. Bring your preferred payment method too, whether that’s cash or a card, so you can enjoy the food, drinks, and festival treats along the way.

Yes! Bring a blanket, pack your favourite picnic treats and find a spot on the lawn to enjoy the spring scenery. There will also be food vendors and on-site café options if you’d rather grab something to eat on the day. Just remember that cooking equipment, including BBQs and stoves, isn’t permitted. Alcohol is not permitted either, as this is a licenced event.

The festival goes ahead rain or shine, so be sure to bring an umbrella or waterproof coat. If you get caught in a downpour, rain ponchos are also available to purchase at the orchard’s retail stores. As CherryHill is a working farm, the ground can become muddy and uneven, which is why closed-toe, flat shoes are highly recommended.

As tempting as it might be, please don’t pick the blossoms! They play an important role in the cherry-growing process, attracting bees for pollination and helping the trees produce the cherries that visitors can enjoy later in the season. You can wander among the trees, take photos and enjoy the flowers without picking them.

Yes, the festival is wheelchair and stroller-accessible. CherryHill is a working orchard, so some areas may have uneven ground. We recommend wearing flat, comfortable shoes and checking with the team if you have any specific accessibility needs.
