Bring It On the Musical Melbourne Took Us Straight Back to High School

Bring It On The Musical cast performing at the National Theatre St Kilda Melbourne July 2026

Remember the film? The pompoms, the rivalries, the cheerleading routines you tried to recreate in your living room? It is on stage in St Kilda right now and it is two hours of pure adrenaline you want to grab your girlriends to watch with.

We watched Bring It On the Musical brings the childhood favourite to life in a way that is turbo charged, beat dropping and high flying.

Our guest, Evelyn was very committed that “Jackson earns the win and we are not arguing.”

From the Tony Award winning powerhouse behind Hamilton and Avenue Q comes Bring It On the Musical, an electrifying Broadway smash that throws you straight into a world of fierce rivalries, killer choreography and next level talent. With an all star creative team led by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Kitt, Amanda Green and Jeff Whitty, the score hits hard, the comedy lands fast and the energy never lets up.

The Story You Already Know, Now With Higher Stakes

Campbell is Truman High’s ultimate cheer queen, primed to dominate her senior year until a sudden transfer drops her into rival Jackson High, where the rules are different, the stakes are higher and cheerleading means nothing. Out of her element but refusing to back down, she teams up with a fearless dance crew led by the unstoppable Danielle. What starts as a clash becomes a full scale takeover. New squad. New attitude. One shot at the National Championships.

The Plot Twist Nobody Saw Coming

What the film never gave us is Eva, the nerdy sophomore Campbell fought to include in the squad against everyone else’s better judgement, the one nobody suspected and the one who had been pulling every string from the very beginning. The twist lands so cleanly you will grab the arm of whoever is sitting next to you. We did not see it coming and neither did anyone else in that room.

The Talented and Diversed Cast

Beautiful voices, sharp moves and a commitment to this material that makes every number feel alive rather than rehearsed.

Emily McDougall as Campbell — The Heart of the Show

Warm, driven and funny in equal measure, McDougall carries the emotional arc of the show with an ease that makes you root for Campbell from her very first moment on stage through to her very last. The role demands range and she delivers it completely.

Alyssa Jandayan as Danielle — The Energy Shifter

Jandayan brings a completely different temperature to every scene she inhabits. The hip hop crew sequences work entirely because of her presence and command of the stage and the audience around her.

Jenna Mole as Bridget — The Scene Stealer

Mole delivers the night’s biggest laughs with comic timing that feels completely effortless and a warmth that makes you love Bridget from her very first entrance. Every scene she is in lands better because of her.

Taylor-Anne Bright as Eva — The Long Game Player

The standout performance of the evening. The plot twist works entirely because of how precisely Bright plays the long game, subtle enough that you never suspect her and specific enough that when the reveal lands, every earlier choice suddenly clicks into place. Difficult, disciplined work made to look completely effortless.

Those Backflips Were a Hate Crime Against Our Composure

The choreography in Bring It On the Musical is high impact in the truest sense of the phrase. You feel it in your chest. The backflips looked dangerous, they looked physically improbable and they had us clapping non stop in a way that felt completely involuntary and entirely correct. High School Musical energy with real heart underneath. That is the whole show in one sentence and it is not a small thing to pull off.
